Job Purpose

The Plant Manager (Financial/Safety/Leadership) will manage production and distribution for branch plants or assigned territory of industrial organization. This position is vital in our manufacturing facility, responsible for the overall operations, workforce management, and productivity of the plant.  Plant Manager plays an integral role in ensuring that production processes are carried out efficiently and safely while meeting quality standards. This position spearheads multiple priorities, from maintaining equipment and overseeing staff to implementing improvements while managing the budgets. Their efforts directly impact the facility's success and, subsequently, the company's profitability and growth. This position is currently being evaluated and may be a 1 – 2-year assignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the equipment and tools used in the processes of the facility activities are well maintained and are in the best condition. 

  • Estimate the financial needs of the plant in a specific period depending on the repairs and other requirements of the operations.  

  • Perform specific tasks that needed to be done for the completion of the plant activities. 

  • Perform other work functions when required, especially in the absence of a plant worker or when an employee needs assistance with regards to knowing his or her job functions. 

  • Ensure minor repairs are being done to prevent items from being broken or unusable in the work environment. 

  • Maintain clean and safe facility. 

  • Direct and coordinate plant operations within company policies and procedures. 

  • Achieve plant production and product quality assurance goals. 

  • Train, develop and motivate plant personnel. 

  • Conduct plant personnel performance reviews. 

  • Work in concert with other staff members to ensure coordination of raw material purchasing, production, and shipping of finished products. 

  • Responsible for establishing all shift production schedules.  

  • Participate in scheduled corporate training and business meetings. 

  • Be willing to perform any responsibility in the plant as required. 

  • Reviews production costs and products and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation. 

  • Help his or her subordinates to understand different plant equipment depending on the needs of operations. 

  • Inspect all the areas of the plant to become aware of the areas that need improvement.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Operations Management or equivalent experience and education preferred. 

 

Experience: 

  • Strong manufacturing knowledge. 

  • Effective interpersonal and supervisory skills.  

  • Preferably skilled in Business Management, Operation Management, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology or similar.  

  • At least 5-years of food, consumer products or other related manufacturing experience. 

  • At least 5-years managing leaders in a manufacturing environment as a Production Superintendent, Production Manager, Plant Manager, or similar role. 

  • Must be capable of working in a high-speed environment utilizing lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies. 

  • Experience with following guidelines is preferred: ISO, SQF, AIB or HACCP.

Language:

  • Spanish and/or French (Creole) beneficial.

Decision Making Authority: 

  • Top plant level authority oversees training of managers/supervisors, Final approval over purchasing.

  • Internal- Plant Manager(s), Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, Supervisor Operations Excellence, HR Manager, Office Administrator 

  • External- Customers, Staffing Agencies and Other suppliers. 

Working conditions

 

  • Interacts with employees and management. 

  • Standing for extended periods of time.  

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer and other devices or objects. 

  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Hearing protection is available.  

  • Ambient temperatures following external conditions. 

  • Requires ability to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist, climb. 

  • Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift is less than 25 lbs. 

Physical requirements

Regularly required to talk or listen, is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms, is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
